About the event
This one week workshop led by credentialed Special Education Teacher, Anthony Palmeri (MA SpEd) and Behavior Specialist, Adeel Asif (MS ABA), with 20 years combined experience in the field of Special Education have developed a program that will encompass many social skills needed in the work setting. Lesson topics will include; customer interactions and greetings, work space vs. personal space, and steps required for a successful job roles.
Students will practice roleplaying and modeling workplace environment routines with Able Coffee Roasters customized content and material using visual and video modeling supports. Daily Able Job Rotations will teach students how to handle coffee bean products while learning to measure and weigh, labeling, packaging, sorting different beans, and price points. Weekly routines will also include community street safety lessons, functional shopping and cooking lessons (coffee related), and Friday community based instruction (CBI). For CBI day students and staff will walk to a nearby shopping center and have lunch as well as work on community based skills, such as waiting in line, purchasing, budgeting and expected behaviors in the community setting. Going out into the community to practice the skills taught within the classroom will help students generalize the content and continue to build on those functional skills from the previous school year, into the upcoming school year.
